Case study - Fear of driving
Fear of driving cured in one session - Val's story
This referral came from Paul McKenna. Val a lady in her late 50's had a fear of driving even though she had driven in the past and people had told her that she was a good driver she had become increasingly scared by the idea of having to drive yet it had become necessary for her to start driving again due to her husband's poor health.
Val's husband needed to go to hospital regularly but it was getting unsafe for him to drive himself . As at that point Val was unable to drive we arranged that I would drive to her for the appointment. Every time that Val thought about driving she felt fear at the very idea and this prevented her from driving. Using a combination of NLP and other simple techniques I very quickly discovered what was causing her fear of driving and before the end of the session she was laughing at what the problem had been. She then decided that she wanted to get into her car and take it for a drive around the block. Val got halfway around the block and decided that she felt so good that she wanted to do the short drive to the hospital with me in the car with her. By the time Val had got to the hospital and drove back home again it had already begun to feel completely normal for her to feel comfortable driving again and her fear of driving has become a thing of the past.
Like many other people with a fear of driving she had been told by driving instructors that she is a safe and competent driver. The problem Val had wasn't her ability to drive it was caused by her lack of confidence and the anxiety she had felt about driving. NLP and hypnosis have been proved to be be one of the most effective forms of treatment for helping people overcome fear of driving. While it would be unethical to give a 100% guarantee, we typically find that in the majority of cases fear of driving is treatable in 1 or 2 sessions.
